10 Reasons Suzuki ECE Is Valuable For Thriving Babies

Reasons Suzuki ECE is Valuable

Let’s explore 10 reasons Suzuki ECE is valuable for thriving babies. As a parent, you want to give your baby opportunities to learn and grow.

There are many music programs for babies a parent can choose. But Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE) provides musical experiences AND helps you and your baby build a closer relationship.

Two reasons Suzuki ECE is valuable are music and relationships.Left photograph is of a Muslim father playing the guitar as the mother holds their baby. The right-hand photograph is of and African American mother and father playing with their baby daughter.

Suzuki ECE Baby Class

Suzuki ECE Baby Class is based on Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s Method of teaching very young children to play a musical instrument. He called it the Mother-Tongue Method of Education.

Suzuki also believed that knowledge and enough repetitions can develop a child’s ability. This is Thorough Mastery.

Then there are three Beliefs and four Concepts that are reasons that Suzuki ECE is valuable.

The Mother-Tongue Method of Education

Reason #1 to consider Suzuki ECE valuable is the Mother-Tongue Method of Education. Dr. Shinichi Suzuki (1898-1998) was a Japanese musician, educator, and philosopher.

He had played and taught violin for many years. However, one day, he had a startling realization. ALL very young children learn to speak their native language fluently.

They have this ability because they hear the language spoken over and over. They learn words. The words become sentences, then paragraphs. Children learn language in this very natural way.

Suzuki believed he could teach very young children to play a musical instrument in the same, natural way. Later, the Suzuki Method was then taken a step further.

Canadian Suzuki piano teacher and Suzuki teacher trainer, Dorothy Jones, took up Dr. Suzuki’s challenge to “remember the babies”. As a result, she and her daughter, Sharon Jones, designed a Suzuki Baby Class program for parents and their babies.

Over the past 30 years, they have trained many teachers. Consequently, there are SECE Baby Class programs all over the world.

So now, the joy of music, learning new skills, and developing relationships through the Mother-Tongue Method of Education is available for babies and children.

However, it is not just a method of education for children. It is a philosophy of education for the entire family.

Thorough Mastery

Reason #2 for parents to choose Suzuki ECE Baby Class is how valuable the idea of Thorough Mastery is. The SECE Baby Class is designed for babies 0-3 years old and their parents.

Potentially, there are 3 years for a child to experience the Baby Class. Thus, they can gain and master a variety of skills.

The curriculum itself remains the same. But, it is varied with additional layers of actions according to the abilities of each child.

In that way, each child can progress at their own pace. Coupled with many repetitions, the children are able to master each activity.

In addition, there is no pressure to learn a particular skill in a certain time frame. This is one of the BIGGEST differences between Suzuki ECE Baby Class and other music programs for babies.

The other programs “teach and move on” according to the calendar. Therefore, it is sad to think about how many songs and skills are left unlearned. It happens all because the teacher had to turn over the calendar page.

Suzuki ECE Beliefs Are Valuable

Reason #3 that Suzuki ECE is valuable is teachers believe that Every Child Can Learn. However, children do learn at different rates.

Regardless, they all can learn musical and life skills through repetition and thorough mastery of each.

Dr. Suzuki was adamant that there was no such thing as being “born” with a particular talent. He believed in the potential of every child.

Reason #4 to choose SECE Baby Class is that teachers firmly believe that Ability Develops Early. Hence, the SECE Baby Class exposes babies to varied and stimulating activities that help your baby to begin to learn sooner.

So then, the songs and activities provide many opportunities for babies and their parents to learn new skills and improve them.

Environment Nurtures Growth is Reason #5 Suzuki ECE is so valuable. The goal of the Baby Class is to create an environment that exposes babies and parent to beauty in music.

It also guides parents and their children to develop a discipline to become life-long learners. Furthermore, the goal of the Suzuki ECE Baby Class is to foster valuable, close learning relationships between you and your child.

Teachers encourage parents to create a home environment similar to the class. They learn to fill their homes with beauty, learning, and relationships.

Valuable Child-Centered Suzuki ECE Concepts

Reason #6 is the concept that Children Learn From One Another. By design, repetition is built into the Baby Class activities.

Various songs and rhymes give every child an opportunity to have a turn. Thus each child observes the other children doing the activity.

In some activities, only a few children get turns. That is also by design. The children learn very valuable lessons about patience and self-control.

Children must learn to wait. They also must learn to wait their turn in activities where everyone does get a turn.

As previously mentioned, children in the Baby Class are ages 0-3 years old. The younger babies learn from the older toddlers as they see them take a turn, often by themselves.

Consequently, the toddlers feel such a sense of accomplishment. They gain leadership skills as they demonstrate what they can do.

The Success Breeds Success concept is Reason #7 to consider Suzuki ECE valuable. The consistent repetition of the activities allows the child to be successful with some part of an activity.

Then, they learn another part of the activity while developing more ability with the first part. Each new success builds on the previous one. This builds whole sets of skills for the child.

Valuable Parent-Centered Suzuki ECE Concepts

Reason #8 is Parental Involvement Is Critical. In the Baby Class and at home, parents are the examples. You are the one who will model the correct way to do an activity. If your baby is very small, you will continue to do so for quite awhile.

Nonetheless, your baby is observing all that activity. They are exposed to many repetitions. Of course, he/she is observing your behavior and actions. They are learning from you all the time!

Encouragement Is Essential is Reason #9 Suzuki ECE is valuable. Suzuki ECE teachers work very hard to make sure that every class is a source of encouragement.

They want to encourage your child. More importantly, they want to encourage you, the parent.

Above all, their goal is to send you home feeling confident. They also want to equip you to do the activities with your child and your whole family.

The Most Important Reason Suzuki ECE Is Valuable

Reason #10 is the most valuable Suzuki ECE reason of them all. Dr. Suzuki said, “Where love is deep, much can be accomplished.”

Such a simple statement, but most profound. He lived and taught this way all his life.

You, as a parent, have a deep, deep love for your child. As their parent, you want the best for them.

Give them every opportunity that you possibly can. Indeed, you might only be able to give them one opportunity.

For all the reasons in this post, give your baby that opportunity to learn the valuable lessons found in a Suzuki ECE Baby Class.

Give them the gift of appreciating beauty. Help them to value learning. Encourage them to grow and find their purpose in life.

Final Thoughts About the Reasons Suzuki ECE Is Valuable

Please remember the Suzuki ECE Baby Class is NOT just a music class. It is a class for parents and their babies to learn and grow together.

Babies will develop all kinds of life skills through repetition and Thorough Mastery. The Mother-Tongue Method reminds you that you need to allow your child to learn in a natural way in his/her own time.

Let each class be a reminder for you to live and act with deep love. This is the most valuable reason that much can be accomplished for your baby, your family, and for yourself.

On the Beautiful Heart Musical Journey with you,

Susan

  1. I appreciate that the period from 0-3 is an ongoing period where skills build over time according to the child. Thanks for giving a background on the method.
