The Great Skills Learned in Suzuki ECE Baby Class

The Great Skills Learned in Suzuki ECE Baby Class

Your baby can learn great skills in a Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE) Baby Class. SECE Baby Class is not just another music class for babies.

Yes, the class involves music. But, the Baby Class activities teach parents and their babies how to master a variety of skills. They are skills that every child needs to grow into a kind, responsible adult.

Through these musical activities, babies learn skills that develop their language, mathematics , and reasoning abilities. Also, some of the activities help babies to master mental and physical skills.

Yet, others contribute to their social, emotional and personal growth development. As you can already see, Suzuki ECE Baby Class really is not just another music class for babies.

There are Language and Math Skills in that Nursery Rhyme!

Language and communication are very important
and counting numbers starts with your fingers!

Firstly, let’s talk about language skills. Your baby will learn to listen carefully and follow simple directions in Baby Class. They will also be able to recognize common sounds and repeat a sequence of sounds.

Obviously, children develop their vocabulary while learning the words to the songs and rhymes. They are also learning to memorize, as well as, communicate.

In Baby Class, children learn about high/low, up/down, fast/slow, and left/right. We call these “pitch skills”. They do directly relate to music. But, they also apply to language and math.

Babies begin to understand the concepts of big and small sounds. They also will start to notice the differences in large and small movements.

You and Your Baby Get Moving!

Playing with a ball, walking, dancing, clapping, and jumping to music
are just some of the motor skills learned in Suzuki ECE Baby Class.

Practically every activity in the Suzuki ECE Baby Class involves learning motor skills. You baby will learn to walk, jump, hop, dance, run, march and clap to music.

They will also work on changing directions. These are called gross or large motor skills.

The finger play activities also help develop fine or small motor skills. Most important of all the activities are the ones that help your baby learn to “cross the midline”.

Crossing the midline successfully (or not) affects so much of what you child will be able to do later on. The Baby Class xylophone activity especially promotes this growth.

In fact, your baby must learn the skill of crossing the midline. It is so important that it deserves a post of its own. So, look for that post in the near future.

Babies Absorb Social and Emotional Skills

The language, math, and physical benefits of Baby Class are fairly obvious. However, skills absorbed in the background may not always be evident.

So, the first noticeable thing is that baby (and parent!) start to develop an “inner calm”. It is no accident that Baby Class begins with a gentle ball rolling activity while music is playing. In addition, there is no talking.

Everyone is learning to be calm and focused. In turn, this leads to patience and maintaining self-control. Parent and baby are both learning this!

Other important skills also include the child comfortably moving away from their parent. This helps them to meet the teacher without being shy.

However, this one is a REALLY important skill: be willing to share with others! It can be very difficult for little ones to share.

No child really want to give up that colorful ball or the soft, little stuffed animal that we pass around the circle. But, they do learn to share them.

Using Baby Class Skills to Nurture Inner Strength

A gentle touch that simply says, “I love you”.

In Baby Class, your baby will learn to imitate the actions of the teacher and the other children. But most importantly, they will be imitating you.

Therefore, you and your child will be building your relationship with each other. Part of building a relationship is anticipating each other’s needs and actions.

Several Baby Class activities develop anticipating the next action. Babies demonstrate this with facial expressions or body movements.

The repetition of the activities develops the anticipation. This leads to increased focus and concentration.

Focus and concentration develop sensitivity within ourselves and toward others. They also help develop our creative abilities.

Ultimately, all these things help your baby to develop inner discipline. The truth is that we all NEED inner discipline. Without it, we often have a very hard time accomplishing our tasks and goals.

Give Your Baby These Great Life Skills

“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline, and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”

Shinichi Suzuki

Suzuki ECE Baby Class provides the activities that will teach your baby (and you) all of these important skills we have talked about. Your baby needs these language, math, and motor skills to help them learn and develop their abilities.

Your baby also needs the social and emotional skills they can learn in the Baby Class activities. I believe that we must help our children to grow into persons that have inner discipline.

They must grow into people who can focus, concentrate, and make wise decisions. We must make sure they grow up with excellent abilities and beautiful hearts.

Dr. Suzuki never intended for his music education method to just create fine musicians. His main goal was for babies and children to learn to have beautiful hearts through music.

That is my main goal for your baby. That was Dr. Suzuki’s prayer for all the children of the world and your child, too.

On the “Beautiful Heart Musical Journey” with you,

Susan
